– Maya Angelou

Who is this space for? This space is for the Black girls. The introverts. The quiet thinkers. The feelers. The ones who’ve ever been silenced, overlooked, suppressed, or made to feel too much. If you’ve ever felt caught between who you’ve been and who you’re becoming, you belong here. Whether you're navigating your 20s, unlearning survival habits, or rediscovering your voice—welcome. This space was made with you in mind.
-
Do you accept guest posts?Yes! If you feel connected to the heart of this space and want to share a story or reflection of your own, I’d love to hear from you. Reach out via email at Kiarra.literary@gmail.com with your idea or draft.

Why did you start Black Bonnet Girls?I started this blog to create the kind of space I longed for: a space to speak, feel, imagine, and be. It’s where I could tell stories that matter to me and say the things I never said out loud. This blog is my offering—to myself and to others like me.
-
Are the stories on this site true? Some are drawn directly from my lived experience. Others are fictional, but emotionally true. Every character I write, I hold close—like chosen family. Either way, every piece is written from the heart. The Lessons from My 20s series are personal essays, and reflective journal-style entries that explore growth, love, healing, heartbreak, fear, and finding my voice are all true and personal.

What is Black Bonnet Girls?Black Bonnet Girls is a reflective, journal-style blog and storytelling space rooted in honesty, softness, and growth. It’s for the feelers, the overthinkers, and the late bloomers navigating womanhood, identity, and healing—especially through a Black, feminine lens.
-
Why the name “Black Bonnet Girls”?The bonnet is a symbol of softness, protection, and heritage—especially in Black womanhood. It cradles our curls, our dreams, and sometimes our tears. “Black Bonnet Girls” is a love letter to that sacred space, and to all the quiet beauty we carry and create.
